SM Entertainment made an important announcement on Wednesday (5/24/2023). This is related to the future of their artists Shotaro and Sungchan who were previously introduced as part of NCT. It has now been formalized by management that the two are no longer joining NCT.
An announcement was made by SM Entertainment via the official Twitter @NCTsmtown. There they uploaded a long statement about Sungchan and Shotaro’s plans in management.
Previously, news had circulated that SM would debut a new boy band in 2023. With Shotaro and Sungchan’s departure from NCT, SM hinted at debuting them into the new group.
Unfortunate news came from the boy group NCT. Today, SM Entertainment announced that two of its members, Sungchan and Shotaro, left NCT.

SM Entertainment has just announced the fate of Sungchan and Shotaro as part of NCT. In an initial statement, SM said that they were no longer part of NCT.
Even so, Sungchan and Shotaro will rejoin the new group made by SM Entertainment which will debut this year.
Sungchan and Shotaro’s exit is part of SM 3.0’s new preparations. The agency also mentioned that NCT is the last group to become NCT’s unlimited expansion. Japanese members will also be increased.
SM also asked that fans continue to ask for fans’ support for Sungchan and Shotaro’s careers in the future.
In the news, SM Entertainment revealed that two NCT members, Sungchan and Shotaro officially left the boy group that debuted in 2016 after approximately 3 years of joining.
As we know, Sungchan and Shotaro were recorded as joining NCT in 2020 through the comeback album Resonance.
